The ninth video focused on something that would become increasingly important to Massachusetts rideshare drivers: the newly established rideshare driver law and the changes it introduced for people working on the platforms.
In the video, I walked through the information that was available at the time and discussed what the changes could mean for drivers. Like many regulatory changes, there was a great deal of discussion, speculation, and confusion surrounding the details, so part of the goal was simply to break the information down into a format that people could understand.
Looking back at the video today, however, there is another thing that stands out immediately.
The audio.
Like many content creators, I was experimenting with production techniques and trying different settings to see what worked. In this particular case, I decided to play around with pitch adjustment and gave myself a noticeably higher-pitched voice.
In hindsight, that was probably not one of my better production decisions.
One of the benefits of reviewing older content is seeing those experiments in action. Some changes improve the final product. Others serve as a reminder of why certain settings were never used again. This video definitely falls into the latter category.
Still, the video represents an important stage in the channel’s development. It combined one of the channel’s recurring themes—explaining policies, regulations, and how they affect everyday workers—with the ongoing process of learning content production through trial and error.
Sometimes you learn from success.
Sometimes you learn from hearing your own voice played back and immediately realizing that a particular setting should never be touched again.
This video may have provided a little of both.
